Yes. You can attend up to three meetings of Peel Region Numismatic Group (‘PRNG’) in a calendar year without having to become a paid member.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This gives you an opportunity to meet the members and decide whether becoming a member is right for you. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Fees for PRNG are due in February each year. Check the Membership<\/a> page for fee categories. <\/p>\n\n<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\n

If you collect coins or banknotes, then you can benefit from being a member of a numismatic (coin and banknote) club. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Clubs provide their members with the opportunity to meet like-minded people and to share information about their hobby. Clubs are also a great source of items for your collection (and you might be able to sell or swap items with other members).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Many collectors hesitate before visiting a club because they might regard themselves as ‘only beginners’ or for other reasons. No need to think that way! We were all beginners once! <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Collecting coins & banknotes – Where do I start? <\/h4>\n\t\t\t

Most Australian collectors start by collecting Australian coins and banknotes, because those items are generally readily available. Items might come from the collector’s change, fairs or from dealers. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Often, a collecting interest can be sparked if the collector receives foreign coins or banknotes from friends or relatives returning from a trip overseas – or from their own overseas trip. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

As their collection develops, a collector might look to broaden their interests and expand their collection to include other countries (more than just the change from an overseas trip). Or they might look to narrow their interests to focus on: particular countries, just coins, just banknotes, or specific types of coins and\/or banknotes. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Coin and banknote collecting opens up a whole new world of interest. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

There are several ways to identify and value a coin or banknote. Those ways include: <\/p>\n\n\n

Do NOT <\/strong>use online market places, such as eBay, Gum Tree and the like, to find a value for your coins or banknotes. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Prices vary widely on most online market places; the difference can be hundreds or even thousands of dollars for items in similar condition. <\/p>\n\n<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\n

Ask the members of a coin \/ banknote club.<\/strong><\/p>\n\t\t\t

They might not know straight away but are likely to know where to look for the information.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Keep in mind that club members might be willing to help you with information about some <\/strong>of your collection – but not all of it. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

You will gain a better understanding and appreciation of your collection if you spend the time and effort to learn about it.<\/p>\n\n<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\n

Many dealers are members of the Australian Numismatic Dealers Association<\/strong> (‘ANDA’). Check the ANDA website for contact dealers of listed dealers: https:\/\/anda.com.au\/directory\/<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Although many commercial dealers today now only sell online, some still have physical stores. Check the instore prices – but try not to get in the way of the dealer and their customers, especially if you do not plan to buy anything. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Check dealer websites for current prices. Be sure to check more than one website, because prices can vary from one dealer to another. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Images and\/or descriptions for each coin and banknote are listed under the relevant country. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Countries are listed from A to Z.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For finding the value of a coin or banknote<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n
